Rockstar’s next game just released a new trailer on Wednesday that declares Red Dead Redemption 2 as their most expansive game to date. Rockstar has not publisher a full game since the release of Grand Theft Auto 5 back in 2013 which was developed for the last generation console. Assuming they put the majority of their man power into Red Dead after the release of Grand Theft Auto I’d say there is a good chance that the new Red Dead will live up to that sentiment.
This new game is a prequel to the original starring Arthur Morgan who leads a group of outlaws following a failed bank robbery. The game takes place in 1899 among the wild west of an expanding America. Keeping with the theme of a roaming gang in the wild west your base camp or hub will be dynamic and move around the map every time you are forced to flee an area. The new base camp feature was a main talking point in the trailer and seems to be in the same nature as your hub on the Normandy in the Mass Effect franchise. All the members of your gang will be located at the base camp and you will be able to interact with them freely at any time. Interacting with them will prompt missions and promote loyalties and one can assume romances as well, or at least we hope. The camp however will be much more then just a place to meet and great your allies. Rockstar discusses the need to supply your camp with food and money, these valuables with help to raise morale within your gang and will translate into how your allies perform and act around you.
The trailer also revealed the return of the Dead Eye game mechanic that allows the player to slow down time in order to line up shots. In the trailer they display this mechanic with the player bursting through a door and slowing down time to take his Winchester and blasts the heads off of enemies waiting outside, it looked pretty incredible. The last thing that the trailer made sure to establish was the fact that your horse will be much more then just a means to travel from point A to point B. Your horse will now grow with you, the more time you spend with it the easier it will be to control them. They will also serve as your movable storage truck where you will be able to store extra weapons and gear.
Aside from the game play that was shown during the trailer the game just looks amazing. The trailer touts 4K resolution and if you have the means to display it you should definitely crank up those setting and enjoy. Red Dead Redemption 2 is set to release on October 26th, 2018 for the PS4 and Xbox One.
