Game: “What Remains of Edith Finch”

Publisher: Giant Sparrow

Release Date: April 25, 2017

Genre: Adventure Game, Walking Simulator

What Remains of Edith finch was the second game by publisher Giant Sparrow. The game follows a young girl as she walks through the house of her childhood (seen above) and reflects upon memories of various family members. The house becomes the setting for the entirety of the game and what a setting it is. These stories will take the player on crazy adventurers that relive moments in the family m11embers lives. The game lands in the genre of a walking simulator and is a testament of what video games can be when they strive to be pieces of art and not just for entertainment.

(Spoiler) One of the more prominent stories for me was towards the end of the game when you are in a cannery and are processing fish but at the same time day dreaming about a fantasized world. The made up world starts small on the left side of the screen but before you know it it consumes the entirety of the screen. This transition happens seamlessly for the player to the point where you as the player are still processing fish with the right thumb stick while exploring this other world with the left stick at the same time without even realizing it.

HUGE SPOILER

This is a play through of the cannery memory sequence(credit to KatmAnDrew)
