Book Review: A Hologram for the King

Book: “A Hologram for the King”

Author: Dave Eggers

Written: 2012

Dave Eggers is known for his recent critically acclaimed novel “The Circle” which follows a young girl as she navigates the corporate world of a technology company inspired and written to resemble the Google and Amazons of our world. He is also well known for an early installment in his list of book, “A Heartbreaking Work of Staggering Genius” an epitome of Eggers life and a Pulitzer Prize Finalist.

A Hologram for the King while not the most successful book in Eggers career was still an enthralling piece of fiction. The book is set in Saudi Arabia where you follow the main character Alan who is a middle-aged disenfranchised man who has found himself in a bad way financially. Originally from Boston, Alan travels to Saudi Arabia to meet with the king in hopes to sell him a hologram telecommunication system and solve his life problems. Whilst waiting for an appearance with the king Alan finds himself meeting new people, discovering himself, and developing a new outlook on the life he thought he knew.
